TR in the Badlands

When Theodore Roosevelt came to the then-called Dakota Territory in 1883 after the deaths of both his mother and young wife, he was an intellectual landed gentry type from New York City. His ensuing two-year adventure in the Badlands of North Dakota are now protected for all of us - Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The rugged landscape and strenuous life that TR experienced here would help shape a conservation policy that we still benefit from today.
