When Theodore Roosevelt came to the then-called Dakota Territory in 1883 after the deaths of both his mother and young wife, he was an intellectual landed gentry type from New York City. His ensuing two-year adventure in the Badlands of North Dakota are now protected for all of us - Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The rugged landscape and strenuous life that TR experienced here would help shape a conservation policy that we still benefit from today.
Supporting the study, critique, and appreciation of American philosophy and culture--"American Studies"-- in the tradition of William James, John Dewey, Charles Sanders Peirce, Emerson, Thoreau, et al... This site was constructed initially to support an Independent Readings course at Middle Tennessee State University in the Spring 2021 semester.
