Malaise

On July 15, 1979, Jimmy Carter emerged from a ten day retreat at Camp David to deliver an unprecedented speech on the state of the nation.

"I want to talk to you right now about a fundamental threat to American democracy," the President said. "The threat is nearly invisible in ordinary ways. It is a crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will."

  1. This is the type of leader I remember and wish we still had. I feel inspired by his words. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about history to know if he was able to succeed. But from what I experience in America today, it seems unlikely.
